Acclaimed for her poetic sensibility, luminous tone, and commanding technical authority, Dr. Hyun Ju Jang is an international concert pianist, chamber musician, and distinguished pedagogue based in the New York metropolitan area. She holds a Doctor of Musical Arts (D.M.A.) in Piano Performance from the University of Connecticut, an Artist Diploma (A.D.) from the prestigious Yale School of Music, a Master of Music (M.M.) from Mannes School of Music, and a Bachelor of Music (B.M.) from Seoul National University.
At Yale University, Dr. Jang studied under the legendary Beethoven interpreter Professor Claude Frank, serving as his teaching assistant and as a staff pianist. She was honored with Yale’s highest pianistic distinction, the Elizabeth Parisot Award, presented to an outstanding pianist in recognition of supreme musical achievement. Her formative pianistic training also flourished under the mentorship of Prof. Yuri Kim at Mannes College and Prof. Hie-Yon Choi at Seoul National University.
As a sought-after adjudicator, Dr. Jang has served as Head Judge for the New York International Music Concours, the East Coast International Competition, the New York Artists International Competition, and the National Artist Competition, as well as jury member for the 4th Music International Grand Prix in New York. Her academic and pedagogical appointments include serving as Collaborative Pianist and Head Assistant of Prof. Yuri Kim at Mannes School of Music, Piano Faculty and Staff Pianist for the Brian Lewis Young Artist Program, Concert Pianist and Faculty at New York Music School, and former faculty member at the Morse Summer Music Academy at Yale. She also serves as Music Director and Principal Pianist at Palisades Church in New Jersey.
Dr. Jang was the first-prize winner of the Summit Music Festival Concerto Competition in New York, the UConn Concerto Competition, and the Seoul National University Concerto Competition, alongside top honors at the Segye Ilbo, Chosun Ilbo, and Korean Piano Duo Competitions. Her concerto appearances span collaborations with the Seoul National University Orchestra, Seoul Symphony Orchestra, Yale Chamber Orchestra, UConn Symphony Orchestra, Willimantic Orchestra, Summit Music Festival Orchestra, Eurasian Chamber Orchestra, Gunpo & Kwachon Philharmonics, and the Lublin Philharmonic Orchestra in Poland.
An avid recitalist and chamber musician, Dr. Jang has performed on world-renowned stages including Lincoln Center (Bruno Walter Auditorium), Kaufman Music Center (Merkin Hall), Carnegie Hall (Weill Recital Hall), The DiMenna Center for Classical Music, The National Opera Center (Marc A. Scorca Hall), and Plácido Domingo Hall. Her festival appearances encompass the Sarasota Music Festival, Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, Aspen Music Festival, Beethoven Institute, International Keyboard Institute (IKIF) in Manhattan, Tenerife Music Festival in Spain, and the International Music Academy in Italy. She has collaborated and participated in masterclasses with luminaries such as Yefim Bronfman, Peter Frankl, Boris Berman, David Shifrin, Eteri Andjaparidze, Anton Kuerti, and Robert Levin.
